Exploring ethical captive management of reptiles & amphibians through the lens of biological science, conservation, and human nature. The Animals at Home Network is a herpetoculture-based podcast network that hosts: Animals at Home Podcast by Dillon Perron, Project Herpetoculture by Phillip Lietz and Roy Arthur Blodgett, Reptiles & Research Podcast by Liam Sinclair and Ellie Hills, and Animals Everywhere by Bryce Broom. Each show on the network brings all members of the reptile community together to discuss reptile husbandry, scientific research, breeding, wildlife conservation, and more!
Tommy Maxwell of Tommy’s Reptiles discusses his start in reptile keeping, focusing primarily on keeping Frilled Dragons in outdoor enclosures. He also briefly discusses his experience as a U.S. Navy Rescue Swimmer as well, highlighting reasons for joining, picking his job, and eventually retiring. Tommy discusses many aspects to frilled dragons including the enclosures he keeps them in, cohabitation, their personality, diet, size, natural behaviors, and more. He also goes over his struggles in breeding the species, with hopes to have clutches in the next couple of years. We also talk about his Spotted Turtle and Terrapin turtles, from their DIY bioactive enclosure builds, to cohabitation, to suggestions on good turtle species to keep. Tommy also highlights his love for monitor species and his start in purchasing his own Quinn Monitor, continuing to talk about their size, diets, and temperature requirements. Tommy also discusses short-from content creation and YouTube video creation, displaying his love and struggles with making videos.
